A staff member in the office of the Liberal member, Victor Dominello, has asked to play computer games to pass the time while she deals with constituents.
Read the attached article and answer the following questions:
Is it ok to play games whilst being paid to talk to customers in a customer service role?
Is it fair to the people that are calling that they are not getting the full attention of the staff member involved? How would you feel if you knew that the person on the other end of the phone was not giving you their full attention, thought you were too boring to have long conversations with?

I believe if they have to work all the way through lunch they deserve the right to have a little break, even if it is just time to play a 60 second game. If they play the game whilst they have a phone call i believe that is not right but in their own spare time i believe they should be allowed.

I love playing games, but i wouldn't do it when a customer is talking to me on the phone, its like listening to your ipod in the middle of a conversation, its not right maaaan. If they're working for ages and have a break, then it is appropriate, but while customers are relying on you to solve your problems...no.

If they have to work through lunch and other work breaks, thats not right because its not acceptable to work through lunch and stuff, but i like to play games but i wouldn't do it in front of someone whilst talking to them.

- Jobs need to have more depth to them, more interest and more set tasks. It is appalling how staff have asked to play ‘computer games’
- Although a game might be fun to play during a work break at lunch, I still don’t think it would be appropriate in the office even if it is well deserved. Things that might be appropriate would be having a coffee or reading a magazine that has to do with the business you are working for
- If they play the game whilst they have a phone call this isn’t right and shouldn’t be allowed

If the have to work through lunch then they deserve brake after, however of they are playing game when they should be working, then that is not acceptable, because If they were a boss they wouldn't like there employes doing that to them.

I think that if they have no breaks then they should be able to but if they don't then they should have there attention on the phone call as it's there job

EDIT:

Personally I think that that what these people are doing is immature to say the least. The fact that they are working for a business should not allow this type of behaviour, but what makes things even worse is that they are at a parliamentary level; that is embarassing.

Even if the communication is via telephone, the employee should still be giving full attention and respect, as if it were a physical situation.

In regards to 'killing time', I think that the employee should spend less time assigning his/her stasff with time wasting, counterproductive activities, and more time conducting something useful for the employee to do that may further benefit them in the task that is at hand.

In my opinion, it is not acceptable to be playing games while doing your job since you should be focusing on what you are being paid to do. It is not fair to the people that you are engaging in a conversation about their technical issues etc, becuase they are seeking help from you when you are not giving them they full amount of attention that they expect from you.

No definately not you get paid to work not paid to play games.
This is again not right maybe the employer should consider hiring new staff and giving the others the flick.

In my personal opinion i don't think that it's acceptable to be playing games while doing your working as you should be focusing on what you are being paid to do.

It does not show any respect as someone experiencing technical difficulties tends to call you to seek assistance but you on the other hand are sitting there playing computer games and not paying attention.

On the other hand if they decide to play a game in their spare time (not whilst at they are attending to a customor), that should be allowed.

I think that this is unacceptable because personally if I was talking to someone on the phone and they were playing games I would be extrely angry at them, this is a big mistake and should not happen.

i think it is highly rude behaviour to be playing a video game whilst at work. Games will make you lose your concentration at work, which might result in jams if your a telemarketing service.

i think its not okay to play games whilst talking to customer, because you could get carried away and forget what to say to your customers during work, but obviously you need break from work at times, and that the time to be suitable to play games.
no its not fair, people/customers should always have the full attention of staff members.
i would feel unwanted and unlove, i would probably hang up on them :)

Its not right to play games when working, you have a job and you are paid to do it properly this person should get the sack in my opinion.
