With your new understanding of how the law and the court systems work, how do you think that the following case will be resolved? Who is entitled to the money? What factors do you think a judge will take into consideration? Are there any other parties to be considered?

since thy are all children of the lucky man who won but then died sadly they should all share the prize money between themselves.
i reckon the judge will take in that the father said nothing in his will about the money but about property so the judge might not even allow any of the money to go to anyone.
if his wife were involved in this then it should go to her instead of the kids so that when she goes they will then she will leave it to the kids of what is left of the money

I completely agree with Nick. The children of Lajos Szanto should share the winnings.Lajos Szanto did not leave any evidence in the will to support the idead of the winnings getting shared.Nick is also correct as he pointed out that if a wife was involved, she would get the prize money.

I think the money should be shared equally between the siblings as I find it hard to prove who Lajos bought the ticket for; himself or to share. If it can be proven then it should go to Stephen as he was the one he was going to share it with.

Well, had i be the judge, i would first check a few questions.

1) What does the will say for the assets of the man? If all the money is given to a certain person, then that money would be included.

2) Who owns what of this man's. Does someone own all of his assets?

If this doesn't apply, split it even. He really didn't need to take them to court, i know england are in tough financial times at the moment. But it's your siblings for goodness sakes! If one person in the will is said to receive 65% of his assets, he should receive 65% of the winnings, thats the fairest i could make it.

This is quite possibly the smalls blog i've ever written. What. The. Heck.

First of all why would you care about the money when you have just lost your father? that doesn't make sense to me.

I think the children should spend the money on the fathers funeral and then either split it evenly or give it to charity but that won't happen the world has became a very greedy place.

if i was the judge i would give the money to neither of them cause this matter should have been sorted out between themselves as a family. I personally think the judge should give the money away to people in need such as people in third world countries who need it a lot more than the kids.

If you won that much money in a lotto wouldn't you share it with your family anyway. I don't see why it's such a big deal and dragging your siblings to a court case is the last thing you think you would need after the death of the father. Therefore I think they should split it I mean a little money is better then nothing then everyone can get over it. There is enough tension as it is in this family from what I see. A four way split would be $454,545.455 which isn't bad it's quite reasonable. Besides there is no real evidence so this is what I think the Judge should do.

I think more evidence will need to be made present in this case. I agree with Jack in his saying that, if one of his children is entitled to a percentage of the father's assets they get that percentage of the money won. However, no will seems to have been made so the siblings should split the money evenly between themselves. Also I don't think that the sister Christina and husband James should get anymore than the others just because Lajos lived with them.

i think the owners of the house the father was living in deserve a more then the others of the winnings and it depends on what it says about his money in the will other wise it should go towards his funeral or to his wife

Everyone makes very good points. Firstly i agree with eoin, your father has just died and all you can think about is money. They should firstly use the money to pay for all the funeral arrangements and then spilt it. As jack suggested, before they spilt it they would have to see the mans assets and who owns them now that he has passed away and if one sibling gets more of a percentage than the others, but if there was no mention to this it should be divided equally. Nick also makes a good point saying that if the wife was involved all the money should go to her and she could do whatever she wanted i.e spilt it between the kids

i think that if the man had a wife, she would be entitled to the money, as all of his assets would go to her to start off with, i think the judge should then look at his will to see if there is any statements there that would indicate what the man would have wanted done with his money.

Aside from these circumstances, i think it would be a fair decision for the court to split the money into four equal parts for each of the siblings, as they would have equal entitlement, and it would be next to impossible to prove the one child had a joint ownership of the winning ticket.

I think that if the man had a wife, the winnings should just go to her, but if he doesnt then the money should be split equally between the four children. i agree with eoin and charlyn with this, their father has just died and they're thinking about money? :S

I find this so bizarre that this man has won so much money and then died the next day!
And very strange of his children thinking about the money right after he has died..
I agree with many of my peers, the money should be split between his four children but i do agree more with rachel above that if he has a wife it should be given to her.

Like everyone above has said, i think that the money should be given to the spouse he had one as she entitled to take ownership of everything he has left behind. If he did not have a spouse then it in the rights of his four children to be entitled to equal amounts of their father's winning.

And i agree with chloe, It is a bit bizarre that he dies the die after he's won all this money and after his death all his children are worried about is what's going to happen to the money. I reckon they finished mourning after they found out someone was entitled to ownership of their fathers winnings.

:/ KTHANKSBYE

oops :/

this is a strange one i think that they should share the money equally the older ones should be able to see that this is the right thing to do, maybe some of the money should go towards paying funeral costs!

thats a little sus that he died the day after he won $2 million dollars. anyway $2 million dollars isn't that much money to break up a family i reckon. The fair solution would be that the money was divided equally and they all get a share of it. It doesnt matter who 'shared' the ticket, lived with him. The fact is that if he owned the money and died then his assets should be split between all of the children

This is really kinda weird case , morally i think the money should be split equally all of them should get equal. All of the children deserve the same

it's sad that the man has died right after he won the money. i think that the judge should make the final decision of splitting the money between the siblings.
the judge should take into consideration that what would the siblings be spending the money on.
also, how did the man die ?
