I wouldn't even consider it before buying a house. I guess i would put in a little research to see who was living in the area, but if i was a grown adult looking to buy my first house, i wouldn't be that concerned...

If crime had been committed in the house before, i may be a little wary, but it would not stop me considering the purchase.Lightning rarely strikes twice, and if, for example, a robber had stolen from the house once, it would be a bad move to go a second time, as it would make it easier for police to track them.

If there was a crime map, I believe i may check it, it would be worth checking.

You are insane Jack! I wouldn't want my house broken into!

I would be one of the majority of people who would check the internet for info about the house I am about to buy.

What happened to the Gonzales' was just awful.

Well done :P

I would check the net, but as the phrase goes 'lightning never strikes twice', It wouldnt be a MAJOR factor in my decision to purchase a house.

If a peadophile lives within 5 kms of my house, and it brings the house price down by $25000, all the better for me, I would just use the money to buy a good security system (or a playstation...).

1. I would not buy a house that a bad crime was committed in (unless the price is marked down by over $3,000). It really doesn't matter.

2. I place very much importance on the amount of crime in the place where I wish to buy a house. I don't want to be robbed, killed or molested.

3. I would look at the police crime map becauseit looks like a very good resource.

Q1. In regards to buying a house that a pretty bad crime was committed in I would certainly not buy that house unless it was really low price and was my last option before living on the streets.

Q2. When buying or choosing where to rent the importance of crime levels really matters to me I think almost everyone will automatically fear for their genuine safety and steer clear of these crime areas.

Q3. Well I would check the police website and check the crime hot spots most definitely before I bought.

Crimes such as being broken into, things being stolen, etc never really comes up when buying a house, so that wouldn't bother me. If it was a really bad crime, such as murder, than i would never buy the house. I'm too superstitious .

How much importance do you give to an area's crime levels when buying or choosing where to rent?
i would personally like to live in a area with a low crime rate, but then again i would like to live in a place that was convient when it comes to shopping, school, etc. Evidently the importance of an area's crime levels varys for me.

If Australian police went down the path of the UK in putting a crime map online, would you check it before you bought?
It would definitley be interesting to see what types of crime have been commited in certain areas, so yes. Although it would make myself more aware when it comes to actually buying houses .

Would you buy a house a pretty bad crime had been committed?
It really depends on how bad the crime was. If it was something small like a robbery, i would still buy it but if it was really bad, like a murder, then no i would not.

How much importance do you give to an area's crime levels when buying or choosing where to rent?

I think checking the crime levels is really important. I would rather live in a nice, safe neighbourhood than one where it would be likely for my house to get broken into.

Yes i definitely would

1. I wouldn't ever feel comfortable living in a house, street or area where crimes had previously been committed. It would always be in my mind which I don't think it would be a very healthy lifestyle so no, i would not buy a house in an area where crimes have been committed.

2. A very high importance. Personally for the safety of myself and my family I'd want to live in a peaceful and safe area.

3.I would always check a crime map if Australian Police went down the path of UK.

i would rather not live in an area where many crimes have been committed because it sends the vibe that there isn't much safety about the town.

No i wouldn't buy a house in a bad crime area especially if i had a family. Why should i put my family at risk just for a house?
If i was buying a house yes the crime rate around the area would effect if i buy it or not i shouldn't need to put my self and my family at risk just so we have a place to leave i would look a house in a better area. Yeah it might be more expensive but i can't put a price on my families safety.
If Australia did put a crime map online of course i would check it to make sure the area is suitable for my kids to grow up in.

1. No i would probably not buy a house where something bad has happened or it was a dodgy street because when i go to buy a house i want it to be a safe place for me where i can relax and not have to worry about being robbed or attacked etc.

2. Crime levels in an area i think are very important. If you are oblivious to these facts or they are not available to you then you could either be in a lot of danger and or non at all, so knowing the crime levels are an important factor.

3. If the Australian police did do this i think i would check it before i buy just to see what im actually getting myself into.

crime can occur anywhere. Crime is such a broad term, that it is so hard to say if i live in a certain area i will never have to experience crime. I personally would not like to live in a home which was once used as a drug house or a slaughter mansion, just because I think its eary.

I'd like to live in an area that is stable I know no area will ever be perfect, but then that may be because of private violence e.g domestic violence between a boyfriend or girl friend, instead of public violence such as people getting mugged everyday. I'd prefer a publicly safe area because I don't want to be afraid of where i live.

If there was a crime map I would check it because I don't want to live in a street where I know I'd be compromising my safety.

I would buy a house if a crime had been committed there but it depends what it was if it was a robbery or adultery then it wouldn't really matter but if it was a murder then i wouldn't really wanna buy it.

I would give it great importance if there were any crimes happening around an area because ofcourse i wouldnt want it to happen to me.

yes i would check the map before i bought a house to see if the crime levels were high or low.

I would not buy a house where a crime had been committed. I would always be weary of whether it will happen again. I wouldn't be able to stand in the room where someone was murdered, it would scare me a lot. However, if it was a crime like robbery or breaking and entering, I would probably buy it.

If there were crimes happening in the area, I would definitely not buy it. I wouldn't want my family or myself to get hurt.

I would check the map before I bought a house.

I would never buy that house, especially knowing that there was a crime committed in the house. I would clarify and double check the area by phoning real estates, police and even asking bystanders and the locals and the crime map for the area.

I would definitely consider my families safety before i move into a crime related area
